Brick Lane

Traditionally a working-class district, London's East End was transformed in the late 20th century following waves of immigration from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The district is now also a hub for students and creative types looking to escape soaring rents elsewhere. The mix makes for a vibrant atmosphere, especially around Brick Lane, which is a hot spot for Asian food. More than 60,000 Bengalis live in the area, affectionately known as "Banglatown". Brick Lane itself offers a seemingly endless row of Bengali restaurants, where you can enjoy delicious fish curries and thali plates alongside cold beers.
